My diesel particulate filter light has illuminated / how do I clean my diesel particulate filter?

The diesel particulate filter system in your Vauxhall filters harmful soot particles out of exhaust gases. It includes a self-cleaning function that runs automatically during driving when the filter needs cleaning. This can take up to 25 minutes and fuel consumption may be higher during this time. It's normal for there to be an emission of odours and smoke and an increase in heat during this process.

The control indicator ('!') will flash if the diesel particulate filter needs cleaning and your previous journey has not enabled automatic cleaning. If this happens you should carry on driving, keeping your engine speed above 2000 revolutions per minute, shifting down if necessary. The diesel particulate filter cleaning process will start, and we don't recommend you stop the journey or switch off the engine until it's finished.

CAUTION: there's a risk of engine damage if the cleaning process is repeatedly interrupted. Cleaning takes the shortest amount of time at high engine speeds and loads, and the control indicator light will turn off as soon as the self-cleaning operation is complete.

You should also check the level of oil in your Vauxhall regularly. If the cleaning process is repeatedly interrupted, diesel fuel will pass into the sump and you'll notice a higher oil level when you check it. For short journeys, you should check your oil level more often. And if you find that your oil level has increased then you should change it.

For further information on your diesel particulate filter please refer to your owner's manual.

Where can I find my nearest Vauxhall Retailer?

Please go to the 'My Retailer' section in your profile and use the search fields on the right hand side. You can save your preferred Vauxhall Retailer to your profile.

How can I get a replacement owners’ manual for my vehicle?

Call any Vauxhall Retailer and ask for the parts department; they will order a replacement for you. Alternatively, we have posted a selection of owner's manuals online.

How often do I need to get my vehicle serviced?

Service intervals vary for each model of vehicle. The recommendation for your model can be found in your owner’s manual, which was provided with your car at the time of purchase.

If you’re still unsure please contact any Vauxhall Retailer, who will be happy to help you.

My radio is locked. How can I get it out of safe mode?

You’ll need to enter your radio’s security code, as described in your infotainment manual. This code can be found on the car pass provided with your vehicle at the time of purchase. If you don’t have the code, please refer to the next FAQ.

How can I obtain my radio code?

Please contact a Vauxhall Retailer. The radio security code is there to prevent the unit being used if stolen, so please have your registration documents to hand to verify your ownership of the vehicle. This ensures the security codes are not misused.

What should my correct tyre pressure be?

Tyre pressures vary for each model of vehicle. Your model’s recommended pressures can be found in your owner’s manual, which is part of the glove-box literature provided with your car at the time of purchase.

Where can I buy spare parts and accessories, and how much do they cost?

Please speak to the parts department at any Retailer and they will help you. You can also buy accessories directly from the Vauxhall web shop.

How will I know if my vehicle is affected by a safety recall?

We will send a letter to the registered keeper of the vehicle, asking that the repair work is completed as quickly as possible. If you still have concerns, your Vauxhall Retailer will be able to help you.

How do I re-activate my Lifetime Warranty?

While you own your Vauxhall, you'll receive an email or letter from us each year reminding you to re-activate your Lifetime Warranty. Your re-activation date will also be displayed in your Drivers’ Centre profile. To re-activate your Lifetime Warranty, you’ll need to take your vehicle to your Retailer to carry out the necessary re-activation checks. A new card will be sent out to you once your car has been checked and your warranty re-activated. Your profile will be updated with this information.

Why do I need to take my car to a Vauxhall Retailer?

Your Lifetime Warranty is only valid when your Vauxhall Retailer carries out certain checks. To find out more about these checks, please refer to your Lifetime Warranty terms and conditions.

When you visit your Retailer, please take your V5 (vehicle registration document) and your vehicle’s service history (unless a service is being carried out on the same day as the re-activation check). The service history shows your vehicle has been inspected in line with recommended Vauxhall servicing intervals, and that these cover quality of parts and grade of oil used. Service books completed with a Vauxhall franchised stamp are enough – but if you’ve had your vehicle serviced outside the Vauxhall network, you must provide its service history, including service invoices and detailing parts and oil used.

How long is my Lifetime Warranty valid for?

Your Lifetime Warranty is valid for up to 100,000 miles. For your Lifetime Warranty to remain active, you need to have your car checked each year by an authorised Vauxhall Retailer. Your re-activation deadline is shown on your Lifetime Warranty card.

Check your re-activation status on your profile. If a red light is displayed, it means you’re due for re-activation and will need to book an inspection with an authorised Vauxhall Retailer.

I think I’ve missed my Lifetime Warranty deadline. What does this mean?

You still have 14 days to re-activate your Lifetime Warranty after your re-activation deadline has passed. Unfortunately, if you don’t re-activate your Lifetime Warranty by this time it will expire and it can’t be renewed.

Please go to your profile to check your re-activation status. If the status light is red, book an inspection with an authorised Vauxhall Retailer straightaway. If you have any questions, please call us on 0845 602 5233.

I’ve lost my card - can you send me a new one?

Yes, of course. Please call us on 0845 602 5233 and we can organise this for you. We will need to ask you a few security questions first.

How can I change my contact preferences?

Go to the My Details section on your Drivers’ Centre profile and click on ‘Edit details’. Make your changes in the details fields and click ‘Save changes’ to save them to your profile. Please note, for security reasons you cannot change your name or email address through the Drivers’ Centre. We’ll need proof of your new name to validate your request – unauthorised name changes will invalidate your warranty. If you’d like to change either your name or email address, please call us on 0845 602 5233.
